About Us

Wild Wings Safaris was founded in 2005 by Onne and Simon Vegter, two brothers with a deep love for South Africa's magnificent wildlife and natural heritage. We are a registered and established tour operator based in South Africa, with a satellite office in Australia. We offer a variety of safari options throughout Southern Africa, for any group size. We are a small owner run company and we pride ourselves on offering efficient, friendly and professional service, flexible itineraries and excellent rates. Allow us to share our enthusiasm and knowledge of the Kruger National Park and other top travel destinations in Southern Africa with you.

We are a member of SATSA (Southern Africa Tourism Services Association), the industry standard regulatory body which protects you as client. SATSA members are deemed to be reliable and credible providers of services to tourists. It means we have been verified as having comprehensive insurance, all necessary permits and licenses in place, and sound financial standing. SATSA members are covered by bonding insurance, ensuring that you will never lose any money paid in advance. We are proud of our impeccable reputation and will be happy to provide references of previous clients upon request.

We aim to meet and exceed the expectations of our guests, while keeping costs reasonable and maintaining the highest standards of service and attention. We love what we do, and we love to do it well! Our extensive knowledge of the various lodges and destinations in Southern Africa enables us to offer unbiased advice and recommend the best destinations, as we are not affiliated to any particular lodge. We have personally visited most of the lodges and hotels we use, and will never recommend a substandard lodge. We aim to get you the best possible deal and design a safari that is suited to your requirements. We negotiate discounted rates for you wherever possible and add no booking fees and no credit card surcharge. This means you do not pay more by booking through us; in fact, you will pay less. Arriving as a guest of Wild Wings Safaris assures you of the best possible service at the destination of your choice, because of our established reputation with the lodges and hotels.

Meet Simon, our senior ranger and tour guide. Simon is a highly knowledgeable and experienced field guide with a special interest in birding and wildlife photography. He brings his own blend of humour, enthusiasm, vast expertise, friendly service and a keen eye to help make your safari an unforgettable experience. Oh, and did I mention his cooking skills? You have not had breakfast until you have tasted Simon's full bush breakfast cooked up at a Kruger Park picnic site with only the best ingredients! Simon is fluent in English, Dutch and Afrikaans, and can also communicate in German. He has worked at a number of prestigious lodges over the last 10 years. A highly trained game ranger, Simon is THETA-accredited and registered with FGASA (the Field Guide Association of South Africa) and the DEAT (Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism).

On par with Simon is our other senior tour guide Neil. Friendly, witty and enthusiastic, Neil's experience and knowledge of the bush makes his safaris very special. When we first met Neil, he was a Kruger Park local, living and working on a game reserve bordering the Kruger National Park. Sometimes, when he takes a break from guiding safaris in the Kruger Park and wants to take his wife on vacation, you guessed it, he spends his vacation in the Kruger Park! It's in his blood to be in the bush amongst the wildlife. Neil has conducted many safaris throughout Southern Africa, and is without doubt one of the best guides we have come across.

In the words of one of our recent guests:

Dear Gudrun,

I am writing to tell you how much Neil and I and our son enjoyed our Wild Wings safari experience the weekend of March 14-16. Our 3-day Kruger quickie safari far exceeded our hopes, and I credit our guide Simon for that. From the moment Simon picked us up at the airport to the last tidbits of information he shared with us on the drive back Sunday afternoon, Simon was knowledgeable, humorous, enthusiastic, organized, attentive, tireless, inspiring. The respect he showed to everyone we came in contact with, the fascination and care he showed for the natural world, the breadth of his knowledge were all impressive. Thank you so very much for this experience; we will eagerly recommend your safaris to friends. Kudos to your organization and to Simon.

Sincerely,
Barbara Kelley, US

Apart from Simon and Neil, our office team includes Magda, our admin whiz, and our knowledgeable travel consultants, Clare, Dianne, Alda and Gavin. Onne has personally visited most of the safari lodges and destinations we sell, and we pride ourselves on being able to offer unbiased, expert advice from personal experience. Our Australian satellite office is run by Gudrun MacDonald, who has been in the travel industry for over 20 years and has personally travelled all over Southern Africa. Together we make the perfect team to design and deliver your Southern African safari!
