Open vehicle game drives
Open vehicle game drives

All daily game drives are included in the price and are conducted in a specially designed open safari vehicle with a highly experienced safari guide. Our guides are legendary and this is without doubt our biggest selling point - a good guide makes a huge difference to your safari experience. The guide will help you to spot the animals and will interpret their behaviour and explain fascinating details about the bush around you. During each morning drive you can enjoy a scrumptious mid-morning bush brunch, cooked up by your guide at a beautiful picnic spot, perhaps overlooking one of the waterholes in the Kruger Park.

Accommodation is in clean, comfortable thatched bungalows with 2 or 3 beds. Each unit has air conditioning, ceiling fan, private bathroom, mosquito screens, fridge and veranda. We do not offer camping safaris. Depending on the camp we use, there may be other accommodation options to choose from, like 2-bedroom guest cottages, or permanent safari tents with en-suite bathroom (with electric fan but without aircon). More luxurious accommodation options are also available at extra cost.

Various optional extras can be arranged, including guided bush walks in the Kruger Park, and night drives with powerful search lights on an open safari vehicle, looking for leopards, lions and other nocturnal animals.

Itinerary:

Day 1:
Departing from Johannesburg airport or surrounding hotels at around 08h30 am we drive along a scenic route to the entrance of the Kruger National Park. Here we transfer to a specially designed open safari vehicle. Game viewing begins as soon as we enter the gates, and we look for giraffe, zebra and various antelope species on our way to the camp, where we arrive by sunset. After settling in, we enjoy a superb dinner in the camp restaurant. Fall asleep to the sound of hippos snorting or lions roaring in the distance.

Day 2 & 3:
Full day game drives, or morning and afternoon game drives in the Kruger National Park, filled with the excitement of seeing Africa's wildlife in their natural habitat, from the safety of an open safari vehicle. Whether it's lion, elephant, giraffe or the variety of birds and smaller animals that can be seen, we guarantee you a fascinating and satisfying safari experience in this vast African wilderness area. While looking for the big 5 and other wildlife, we stop at waterholes, view points and picnic sites where you can stretch your legs and enjoy some refreshments. On some safaris, we visit the waterhole where the famous Battle at Kruger video was filmed. On each drive, we provide mineral water and soft drinks free of charge. Dinners are enjoyed in the camp restaurant, or may take the form of a traditional South African 'braai' (barbecue), expertly prepared by your guide, a real feast under the stars (weather permitting).

Day 4:
This morning we pack up early and head out on a final early morning game drive in search of wildlife that may have eluded us thus far. We hope to see leopard, wild dogs and other rare species of wildlife. Breakfast is served at a picnic site along the way, and we exit the Kruger Park during late morning to begin our journey back to Johannesburg. The transfers to and from Johannesburg are conducted in a luxury air-conditioned microbus. Normally we arrive in Johannesburg by 17h00 p.m.

Leopard

How does this safari compare to other Kruger Park safaris one may find on the internet?
* We use an open safari vehicle (many other cheap safaris are conducted in closed vehicles, not open vehicles).
* The accommodation we use is inside the Kruger National Park (many cheap competing safaris are called Kruger safaris but are actually based at a cheap lodge outside the Kruger Park).
* We offer unlimited, flexible game drives. Typically our morning drive is 5 to 6 hours long, and our afternoon drive 3 hours. But if you want to stay out on game drive all day, you can.
* The biggest difference is the quality of the guides who lead our safaris. We use highly experienced, English speaking guides who are among the best guides on the region. The quality and experience of the guide makes a huge difference to the safari experience. (It is cheaper to use a young, entry level guide who is recently qualified and speaks poor English). I invite you to read some of our reviews on Tripadvisor.
* We avoid taking new people on board midway through a safari. (Many competitors do this in order to be flexible with the departure dates they can offer, but this affects the quality of the game drives and means the guide has to adjust his commentary and stops to accommodate the new people again).
* How does this safari compare to a safari at a private game lodge, for example in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve? We answer this on our FAQ page.
* As with all our safaris, there are NO HIDDEN FEES and NO CREDIT CARD SURCHARGE.
