Rhino Walking Safaris

Specialising in luxury walking safaris, Rhino Walking Safaris offer exclusive traversing in 12,000 hectares of pristine bush, in a private concession area of the Kruger National Park. There are 3 lodges or camps - the luxurious Rhino Post Safari Lodge, Plains Camp which is a tented camp for walking safaris, and a basic Sleep-Out camp which consists of elevated wooden platforms with mattresses and mosquito nets (sleep-out option by prior arrangement only).

Why choose Rhino Walking Safaris?

  • A unique bush experience.
  • Inside the Kruger National Park.
  • Combine luxury with walking trails.
  • Combination of game drives and bush walks.
  • Outdoor showers at Rhino Post Camp.
  • Plains Camp overlooks active waterhole.
  • Swimming pool at both camps.
  • Big Five game viewing

Rhino Post Lodge offers 8 spaciously appointed suites, raised on stilts above the Mutlumuvi Riverbed. Each unit has an overhead fan, modern en-suite bathroom, and private viewing deck with reed-enclosed outdoor shower.

Typically, a rhino walking trail would include a combination of some game drives and mostly bush walks. It is best to spend a couple of nights at Rhino Post Lodge and a couple of nights at Plains Camp. There is no fixed itinerary and no fixed departure dates, so we can design a 3-day, 4-day or 5-day walking safari according to your requirements.

Plains Camp is a beautiful tented camp situated on an open plain, overlooking an active waterhole. Walking trails may start or end at Plains Camp, and the accommodation here consists of 4 comfortable safari-style canvas tents on wooden platforms, each with running hot water, overhead fans and comfortable beds.

The common area includes a friendly lounge and dining area, outside fireplace and small plunge pool. The generator system can be used to recharge camera batteries at specific times.

The Sleepout Platforms offer guests a unique bush experience, out in the open (weather permitting). Guests will arrive on foot in the early evening, with a lightweight rucksack containing a change of clothes, pillowcase and sheet inner for the sleeping bag provided. After hanging up a mosquito net and flysheet (optional), sundowners can be enjoyed on the platforms overlooking a waterhole. There is no better way to enjoy the sounds of the bush at night! The camp has 2 bathrooms with hot showers. Maximum 8 guests and 2 armed rangers.

The daily activities will either be game drives or walking trails, as planned in advance. In general, game drives are mostly conducted from Rhino Post Lodge, while walking trails are conducted from Plains Camp as well as Rhino Post. The whole group in camp will participate in the chosen activity, as only one activity can be conducted at a time. All meals are included in the rate. A combination trail of 3 days, 4 days or 5 days is the most popular way to experience Rhino Walking Safaris.

Rhino Walking Safaris offers a unique wildlife experience, combining luxury with basic tented accommodation, game drives and walking trails, bush sleep-outs as well as the option of game drives on the public roads in the Kruger National Park.
