South Africa Travel InfoA World in One Country!South Africa is a very popular tourist destination, because of its first world infrastructure, favorable exchange rate and huge variety of destinations and attractions. From the vibrant city of Cape Town to the excitement of seeing Africa's wildlife on safari, from the majestic mountains to the sunny beaches, there is something for everyone in South Africa! The most popular tourist destinations in South Africa are the Kruger National Park, Cape Town and surrounds, the scenic Garden Route coast, Sun City, and beautiful Kwazulu-Natal province with its sub-tropical climate. Other attractions in the region around South Africa include the Victoria Falls (on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia) and the Okavango Delta in Botswana, to name just two. Climate and when to goSouth Africa has pleasant, sunny weather for most of the year. Winter time is between June and August, and although it is cooler during this time, it is a good time for game viewing. Cape Town is less popular during this time, because it can be cold and wet during these months. However, every season has its highlights and advantages. The summer months can be hot in some areas, but since most game lodges and hotels as well as vehicles have air-conditioning, this should not be a problem. We specialize in putting together customized itineraries for families and small groups who wish to visit South Africa and require the personal attention and local knowledge that we can offer. Why not contact us for a quote? Let us know what your interests and budget are, and how many people are in your group, and we will be able put an exciting itinerary together for you for a very reasonable price, either on a fully guided or self-drive basis. Is it safe?Yes. As far as the average tourist is concerned, South Africa is as safe as most other travel destinations in the world. South Africa has experienced some bad press regarding the crime situation, but that does not mean that you as tourist are likely to be affected. While we realise that the threat of crime is a genuine concern for many potential visitors to South Africa, it is important to realise that only the negative stories make it into the media. The overwhelming majority of the million or more foreign tourists that visit South Africa every year experience no problems or incidents of crime, and consequently many visitors return to our beautiful shores year after year. Most areas and destinations that we recommend on our itineraries are very safe areas, and we have never had an incident or problem with crime on any of our safaris. The fear of crime should certainly not stop you from visiting this wonderful country. Getting AroundThere are plenty of flight options for internal flights between Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, George, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit and Hoedspruit. Due to the distances, driving can take a long time and it is probably best to fly between different cities or regions, then you have more time to explore the surrounding area. If you book a guided safari with us, you will not need a rental car because your guide will drive you everywhere. If you choose a self-drive safari, we will arrange for your rental car to be ready at each airport you are flying to. The roads in South Africa are generally very good, and with a decent map (which we provide) you will easily find your way around. Culture and LanguageSouth Africa's cultural diversity and interesting history is one of its attractions. You can visit tribal villages, townships, the Apartheid museum, Robben Island, the Cradle of Humankind, and various other cultural and historical sites. We have 11 official languages but English is spoken and understood everywhere. The currency is South African Rand (ZAR). Credit cards and traveler's checks are accepted everywhere. |
